Cambridge won 19-2

The Blues Lacrosse team travelled two hours to Reading and came away with the most emphatic win of the season so far. As the score line suggests, it was an entirely one sided affair and from the first whistle Cambridge outplayed their opponents in every position.

The Light Blues moved the ball confidently in attack; the first goal scored within the first two minutes to hint at the type of game that was to follow. The first half of the game saw some fantastic team goals, created through off ball movement and accurate feeds. In particular Josh Findlay had a brilliant game; his solid stick skills showing up throughout. The vast majority of goals scored were assisted; even goalie Sam Spurrell found himself in the attacking half to notch up two assists by the end of the game. However, Cambridge were not afraid to take on their defenders; Carl Tilbury and Duncan Barrigan in particular dodging explosively to beat their men and finish well.

The few occasions Reading managed to pressure the Cambridge goal soon resulted in a turnover as the Light Blue defence were more than able to cope with the Reading attack. Cambridge finished the first half 10-0, and looked hungry for more.

The third quarter saw Cambridge take the foot off the gas and some newcomers were rotated in to get some game time experience. As a result, the Reading attack was able to get two quick goals; a number of avoidable fouls gave Reading a man up advantage and they punished the Blues for their complacency. So, in the final quarter Cambridge got their heads back in gear to finish strong. Captain Duncan Barrigan finished top scorer with an impressive 11 goals and 2 assists, though this does not reflect the top quality team play at the heart of Light Blue success.
