Kingfishers success in Oxford
17/11/2010
Cambridge won 10-5
Cambridge Kingfishers came out fighting and dominated the Oxford defence holding the ball safely to Oxford's frustration. Ellie Jeffreys demonstrated a beautiful fake, confusing the goalie as the ball sailed into the net. 2 others goals went our way before Oxford called a time out to get their acts together. They came back with a vengeance and managed a goal from a fast break before our defence had regrouped. Their raised confidence allowed them another goal before Cambridge got back on track and Check scored a goal from an unexpected postal drive. The half time score of 5-3
didn't reflect the overall Cambridge possession. Every ground ball had been ours but Oxford where quick to work the ball into their attack after turnovers.
The biting cold really hit us after hard time when everyone's' stick skills were struggling but we monopolised and scored two fast goals straight from the draw with some creative work from Ellie and Check. Our goalie made some great saves provoking Oxford into an illegal swipe to a valued member of the attack, Jo Hall who was forced to sub off.
As the game was drawing to a close Cambridge demonstrated a strong possessive play which lead to a final score of 10-5. This highly competitive match has increased our determination for another successful Cambridge varsity.
